    macro in Personal.xlsb not loading from existing .csv file

    I have macro in my PERSONAL.xlsb file that are available normally when I open a new Excel sheet. If I open a .csv file from File->Open, the macros are still available. However, when I open a .csv file directly from the desktop or from the folder it is located, the macros are not available. It looks like when loading a .csv direct from the desktop PERSONAL.xls does not load.


    Since iam trying to automate this process using an automation tool, i wanted to open the .csv file directly from it's location....

    Any help??

    It sounds like Excel is opening in Safe Mode, that is with the /s switch when you double click the CSV file to open it because the /s switch doesn't open files in the XLSTART folder and that is where personal.xlsb is usually kept.

    I don't see how this could be accomplished other than something has become corrupted in the file associations for CSV especially if other files with excel extensions open correctly. I would try a repair installation of Office in the Control Panel.

    Excel is not opening in Safe mode.

    Is there any way around other than re installing the program again..??

    I suspect that if Excel is not opening in Safe Mode, something is indicating that it is in Safe Mode and therefore not opening the Personal.xlsb

    A repair install is quite quick.

    Open the Control Panel
    Select Microsoft Office
    Select CHANGE
    Select REPAIR
    Click continue

    FYI, iam able to open the personal.xlsb when i open a new worksheet, but not able to see the personal.xlsb file with the existing worksheets.

    That is why I have the feeling that there is something corrupted in the Excel installation.
