Buttons shrinking for no reason

I created several buttons on a spreadsheet, and they work 99.99999% of the time.
But every once in awhile, they will shrink and I can't 'undo' that change - and have to go to the latest backup version.

* I can't control when it happens, so I don't have an example of when it does, but I did attach a screen shot of before and after.

1) the buttons are set to 'move but don't resize'
2) I need the buttons to move to enter individual scores - and that works fine. So, I CAN'T set them to "Don't move or size"

Any ideas why/how this is happening? * btw- the buttons still work after they shrink....but I can't get them back to normal without using a backup.

My speculation is that the buttons are 'Active X' Command Buttons. 'Active X' controls are known for their unpredictable behavior. If this is the problem, two ways to solve the problem are:
a. Replace the 'Active X' Command Buttons with 'Forms' Command Buttons which are more stable.
b. Keep the 'Active X' Command Buttons. Rename the Command Buttons to known names. Determine the location of each of the Command Buttons when the Sheet is acting normally. Create a Macro to restore the Command Buttons to their original splendor, whenever the Command Buttons misbehave.

If you need additional help, please upload a sample workbook that contains the Command Buttons in question.
