Question Comparing filtered list against a list

Let's say I'm trying to compare two lists. List A contains a chemical name and CAS # (which is a unique chemical identifier). List B contains the chemical name and CAS # for all the chemicals my company has in inventory. I compare the CAS #'s in both lists to see which ones match. This comparison is referred to as List C. How can I filter List A by all of the CAS number's found in list C (the numbers found in both lists)? I know I have to create an advanced filter on List A but I'm not sure how.

    Example:

    List A "State List"
    Chemical Name - CAS #
    Sulfuric Acid - 7664939
    Toluene - 108883
    Long huge list....

    List B "Company List"
    Chemical Name - CAS #
    Chlorine - 7782529
    Sulfuric Acid - 7664939
    Toluene - 108883

List C "Found in Both List"
    Chemical Name - CAS #
    Sulfuric Acid - 7664939
    Toluene - 108883

I need to create a filter for List A using List C's CAS numbers.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Hikaru,

    Welcome to the forum.

Please refer to the below thread link as this is seems to be vlookup use.

If still you feel that you still need to have more clarity and need a function for that please let us know.

Also, as you must have data ready with you, please upload it so that we do not have to spent time on it doing the repetitive task .
    Thanks,

Re: Comparing filtered list against a list

Would the Vlookup work since this is an OR criteria since I need to find if any of the chemicals in List C match List A CAS numbers? I have attached the file for your reference.

PS: Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here!

    Hi Hikaru,

Please refer to the attachment and refer to the Column L & M.

Re: Comparing filtered list against a list

    Hi adhawan,

While I do appreciate the help this isn't quite what I was looking for. I'm sorry if my explanation hasn't been very clear. Basically, I want the filter in B2 under the grey heading that says "CAS # / DEP CODE" to filter all the CAS numbers by those listed in List B. So, basically List A is shrunk down to size so I can view the thresholds and such. Thank you!

Re: Comparing filtered list against a list

    Hi Hikaru,

Please find the updated version of list.

Note, As you said, you wanted to highlight the items in column A which are common in both list. So I highlighted as "Yellow" color and now you can use "Color Filter" to get the desired list.

    Cheers!
