    Preserving a conditional format

Hi everyone, I have some conditional formats on my sheet which determine the cell colour.

When I copy and paste the data to the "master sheet" the cell colour is not saved - only the conditional format.

How can I copy and paste data by keeping the colour of the cell (as determined by the conditional format) but NOT the conditional format rule itself?

    Thanks in advace

That wont keep the colour as determined by the conditional format. If only it was that simple!

i use format painter, it copies all of it.

which is the little paint brush on the home ribbon on the Left under cut and copy.

    Re: Preserving a conditional format

Perhaps I have not explained clearly what I want.

I have conditional formats which determine the TEXT colour in the cell. The text is always a number. The colour is based on a formula (if the value is >10 turn the text green, if less than 10 turn it red, if exactly 10 keep it black).

If I then copy this text area and paste it elsewhere - I can only maintain the colours by keeping the conditional format rule in place. I would like to just be able to copy the cell values and text colour only and paste elsewhere

No, this keeps the conditional format rule - not the colour of the text as a result of the rule

    Re: Preserving a conditional format

Sounds like you're trying to copy the colour of the cell which has been set by the condtional format but you dont want the conditional format rule being copied as well.

I don't think you can do that, without the conditional format rule the colour of the cell will stay blank or as per any manual setting you have in place.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

    Hi, isn't ALT + E + S + T just a short cut to paste formats?

As previously mentioned, I don't want to paste the conditional format rule - just the colours of the text determined by the format.

Hi Special K, yes that is what I'm trying to do. I'm very surprised this is not possible with Excel

    Re: Preserving a conditional format

It seems this is possible (if you have Excel 2003 or earlier) by Macro.

if you are running a later version, the only solution I can find is to manually copy the data - paste into word - and then paste back to Excel
