Excel 2010 window is always in the foreground

    I use Excel 2010 and Windows 7.

Recently (in the last day or so), Excel has started always having the window in the "foreground". Let's say I have Excel open and I also have Adobe Reader (or any other program open). If I'm currently in my Excel document and try to click on Adobe Reader in the taskbar, Adobe Reader doesn't open. I have to minimise Excel and then click on Adobe Reader for it to open, then minimise Adobe Reader and click on Excel for the document to open again. Alt+Tab also doesn't work.

This issue happens in any saved Excel file, whether it's created or saved on my local computer or a network drive (this is happening on my work laptop). If, however, I create a new Excel file without saving it, this issue doesn't happen.

If someone has any ideas on what might be happening, that would be great, because I'm about to throw my laptop off a high structure.

    Thanks in advance!

right-click on "Microsoft Excel" in the start bar, and make sure that "Always on top" is deselected.

if that is ok try these other two things

Do you have any VBA in the workbook to keep it on top? Something like this link will do it
    http://www.extendoffice.com/document...ow-on-top.html
If it does it with excel & any other program & not with multiple programs running not inc excel. I'd try doing an office repair like this copied from a search
To begin, click on Start and then Control Panel.
After the Control Panel window opens, click on Uninstall a Program.
A list of all installed programs should now appear. ...
After the dialog box loads, choose the Repair option and click Continue.

Right-clicking on the taskbar doesn't give me that option in Windows 7.

The other two things: my task manager only shows one instance of Excel running. I don't have the ability to run Excel in safe mode (my work has locked this on my laptop).

I don't have access to the VBA dialogue in Excel (my work has blocked my accessing it). I also don't have the access to do that through the Control Panel.

I don't know if there is a "quick fix" for this because I don't want to bug the IT guys at work. If I have to, I will, though.

Thank you so much for both your help, though.
