    Count if help

    Hi everyone,

I need some help with the count if function. I have the following data:

    msg_19n msg_27d msg_21r msg_7l
    msg_4m msg_27d msg_31p msg_3e
    msg_30ae msg_38a msg_13c msg_22v
    .
    .
    .
    .

and I want to count the number of times a message appears. Like this:
    Count
    msg_1
    msg_2
    msg_2
    msg_3 1
    msg_4 4
    .
    .
    .

I want the function to ignore the letters after the number. I've attached my data.

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Count if help

    Hi sktneer,

Thanks for your rapid response. The function though is not taking into account messages with two digits. Its double counting msg_1, msg_2, msg_3 in msg_10 to msg_19, msg20 to msg_29 and msg_30 to msg_39.

    msg_1 68
    msg_2 70
    msg_3 64
    msg_4 6
    msg_5 7
    msg_6 6
    msg_7 7
    msg_8 6
    msg_9 6
    msg_10 6

How can this be fixed? Thanks in advance!
