    Vlookup with nested string modification?

    Hi Forum,

I have to do a vlookup for a list of website paths, and some have to be exact, others a wildcard.

However, setting the Vlookup on True, is giving me a bunch of mistakes and problems with the returns.

I was wondering if it was possible to just remove everything after the last / and look up for exact folder matches.

    Ie: google.com/test/test2/index.html would become google.com/test/test2/

How would I go about to do this?

    Hi,

Are you referencing a sorted list?

yes, the list is sorted alphabetically A-Z or Z-a makes no difference.

I lookup www.xxxxxx.com/index.html and it will return the last row in the sorted list which is www.xxxxx.com/test/test/test/test/contact.html

Which is why I was thinking of modifying the string and making the Vlookup from TRUE to FALSE to get exact matches instead.

    Hi,

Would you upload the workbook so that we can see the problem in context.

Would this be the kind of thing you are after? Hyperlinks are in column E with a value in column F. Entries are made in column A and the results are in column B.
