Change a column of cells from positive to negative with thousands serparator

Good morning,

I have 2 questions:

1) Is there a way to copy a column of numbers and paste into another column as negative numbers? I saw a way of doing it by paste special 'subtract' I was looking for a solution with less steps.

(2) Or is there a way to just format the column or row I want as negative numbers with thousands separator? So that I can enter a positive number and it changes it into a negative number and show a coma to separate thousands? I found a way but the - is only visual, I can't use the cell cell in a formula. Format>custom>-General but this method only shows the number as a negative visually. I can't use that row/ column in a formula.

But can you clarify for me "You could also simply make the new column an equal of the negative of the original column." ? Not sure what you mean.

But there is no way to go through format cells to copy and paste positive numbers and make them usable negative numbers?
