EXCEL -- relative & absolute cell addressing - help with my shortfalls in understanding

I need a method for use with / within EXCEL (2013).

The method should sum of all values in the column immediately to the left of this column, between row 2 and (and including) this row.

    I would appreciate your advice.

    TIA, g.

    Re: Macro needed......

Just use the SUM formula or provide more information.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

    Hi conger,

    1. this is not the Right Place there is a Thread for VBA questions
    2. The Title is not according to the Rules
    1. Use concise, accurate thread titles. Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
    3. Post an Example Workbook or make a little bit more effort in explaining what you want

Re: EXCEL -- relative & absolute cell addressing - help with my shortfalls in understandin

Well, the best solutions often come 'out of the ground' by themselves.

After the guidance from Fotis1991 about my conduct, I was encouraged to bypass the EF, and make my own solution.

The algorithm could be described as..
if the cell immediately adjacent to the left is not empty, sum and display all the values for the column adjacent to the left, between line #5 and this line.
    =IF((INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW();COLUMN()-1)))>0;SUM(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW();COLUMN()-1)):INDIRECT(MID(CELL("address";INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW();COLUMN()-1)));2;1+(COLUMN(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW();COLUMN()-1)))>26))&"5"));"")

There it is... easy! Quick and dirty (no error case handling).

Now, please let me thank all those who contributed to the solution.

PS-OT -- Fotis1991, I really liked the video you offered (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyjVAUhHqzs). Sad that there are so few references in the video to 'taking responsibility'... like Ireland did! Still, that may come for Greece. -g- who will be in Crete for September!
