    Exclamation Negative Percent

    I'm comparing 2 numbers in percent:

    A1 = 10.000
    B1 = 10

    =(A1-B1)/B1

    Result: 99.900%

    But if I invert values:

    A1 = 10
    B1 = 10.000

    =(A1-B1)/B1

    Result: -99.90%

    In this case, whats the Excel formula to result -99.900%?

    I can do +200% but I can't -200%. Why?

    -100% is limit on the downside?

    Re: Negative Percent

    Could you clarify further? To me then 10.000 is the same as 10 and I don't see how it can result in 99.90% (positive / negative)

    Sorry. My question is: -100% is limit on the downside? How can I compare 2 numbers and result be -200%?

    Re: Negative Percent

    Yes, you can. Excel is happy to deal with large positive and negative percentage figures. Ultimately they are just numbers formatted as a %.

    For example
    A1 = -10
    B1 = 10
    =(A1-B1)/B1 = -200%

    Re: Negative Percent

    I'm trying compare 2 positive numbers and know if result is positive or negative. This month, I gave $1000. Next month, I gave $1500. So is equal to grown 50%. But if this Month I gave $1000 and at the next month I gave only $10 - How can I create a formula to result real negative percent of this? In this case -900%?

    Re: Negative Percent

    I think there is a misunderstanding of concepts here.

    If both numbers are strictly positive, yes, you can never be less than -100%. The most you can lose in the 2nd period is the amount in the 1st period, in which case it will be -100%.

    Looking at your example, Month 1 $1000 to Month 2 $10 is not -900% but rather -99%. (you lost $990, and $990 out of $1000 is 99%)
