    Functions greyed out

I have a workbook in, Excel 2010, where if you go to review you can see that both the worksheet and workbook are unprotected yet still most of the tab functions (insert, delete, rename etc) are greyed out. I have tried saving as another file name without success and changing the passwords too. Does anyone know where else I can try please?

It sounds like you have Protect Workbook turned on. If the workbook is protected, then the button will still read "Protect Workbook". This is different than "Protect Sheet" which changes to "Unprotect Sheet" once protected. If the Protect Workbook button is highlighted, simply click on it to unprotect the workbook.

Thanks 6StringJazzer, see what you mean. However, none of the passwords I normally use seem to work so does anyone know how to view or remove the workbook password. I have a macro for the sheet but not the book......

There is no way to directly view or remove a password. If you could do that, then it wouldn't provide any security.

There are ways to defeat the security mechanism but we have a rule against such a discussion on this forum.

    Hi ColinDean,

The best way to find out a password is to ask the person who put it on in the first place. If it's your own workbook and you've accidentally password protected it, then all you can do is try different variations of the 'passwords you normally use' in case you mis-typed something - check Caps Lock, etc. Beyond that, you're into the realms of things we don't discuss on here.
