    Darts Scoresheets...

I am the secretary and official scorer for my local superleague team, as part of my role is to record and collate scores and averages from the nights play as they go on official record as a means for players to be selected for county and even international level. Last season I used Excel to record these scores and I am very happy with the scoresheet I created for this purpose, however I also liked to put together a comprehensive statistics sheet for my team as a way in which they can work upon their own performances and improve their game. Recording all of these statistics from 18 long matches which each involve 9 games and up to 5 legs per game, is a very time consuming and laborious process, I was racking my brains and wondering if there was any way in which I can programme an Excel book, in such a way that would be able to identify which statistic belongs to which player and then collate them? Currently Each of the 18 matches are stored on separate scoresheets within a folder for the current season, this is important to maintain as they get sent off to the county individually after each match, this means there will be 18 books within a folder, and the complete statistics and scores fro 9 matches within each book. That will mean that I would like to record the complete stats for 162 games over a season. Is this possible? Or more to the point is this possible for someone with limited programming knowledge? Any help will be gratefully received!

    Hi Rocket,

I think that a Pivot Table would work, but it depends on how have laid out your statistics.

Post a copy of your workbook, and I'll have a look.

    Regards, David

BTW - One massive paragraph is very hard to read. Please consider some paragraphs in future.

    Re: Darts Scoresheets...

Thank you for the response. As this season hasn't yet commenced I will post the scoresheet template and the template for the statistics that I currently collect. I would love for it to be collated automatically as I simply do not have the time to dedicate a couple of hours a week to this any more.

The first attachment is the scoresheet template, the only sheet that is relevant is the one labelled "Skewen Stats" the others are for display purposes only. There will be a scoresheeet recorded for each match that means that there will be 18 books

The second attachment is the statistics book I would like to keep, this will essentially be a collection of all the same statistics as in each match scoresheet but will show progression over a season. My main concern is that while each match will involve nine players, they will not always be the same nine players, will it be possible to programme the statistics book in order to recognise which players stats it needs to collate and where to collate them?

    Re: Darts Scoresheets...

I have had a look at your workbooks, but I am at a disadvantage in that I don't know anything about competitive darts.

I can see that the Superleague Scoresheet model is well developed, and presumably flows though to the Skewen Stats sheet, which you said was important.

I assume that the player's names flow through from the rest of the model, so that at the end of the nine matches you will have all the stats.

I gather from post #3 that you potentially have 18 of these, and you want to gather them all into one place and analyse them so that you can see what each player has done.

Does the date of the match come from the Averages Summary sheet? Cell F2? This is the only place a date is mentioned, but I expect it is important.

Is their anything else you want to track in this master analysis of players? Opponents team or player for example?

Do you have a couple of examples of completed stats sheets that I could use to demonstrate what you could do to analyse by player?

    Regards,

    David

    Re: Darts Scoresheets...

Apologies for the delay in replying to this I have been incredibly busy at work. What you say is correct although I would only like to collate the statistics of my own side for the season, the league collect all players data but I am collecting data in more depth than is really required, this is to aid our captain in team selection. I will attach one of the home matches from last season so you can see the data that we do collate, it is the same data that I would like to put into a single master stats sheet throughout the season, I will also attach last season's completed stats sheet that I had to compile manually.

As you can see in the player stats book, I collate the data for each player individually showing their performances against each team and then a team data sheet that shows just their totals.

    Re: Darts Scoresheets...

    Hello Rocket,

This is what I propose! It will require you to post a VALUES ONLY copy of the Skewen Stats sheet from each match into a new sheet called STATS on the Player Stats workbook. In Column A, you enter the exact description of the match as it is shown on each of the player sheets.

I cell A1 on each player sheet - ensure the Player Name is entered so that it is exactly the same as shown on the Stats sheet.

On ROW 12 on the first seven sheets I have entered formulas to test it out, and I mostly get the same results you entered. (There were a couple of differences, but they looked like typos at your end).

On the P Smith Jnr sheet, I demonstrated how I would deal with unwanted Zeros. I used Conditional Formatting to make the text WHITE if the Played Column is 0.

    Rocket01 - Player Stats.xlsx

I hope this helps, please let me know!

    Regards,

    David

I can see what you have done however I am very confused as to how this would help collating a season's worth of statistics? It looks like the changes you have suggested are just a slightly different way of the way I currently do it, which results in a very labour intensive tagging of individual cells? Or am I missing something? Am I to assume that it is very difficult to collate these stats from the existing books and that a different approach should be considered?

    Re: Darts Scoresheets...

    Sorry Rocket,

I obviously did not make myself clear, so I have made all the suggested changes to your workbook.

    Rocket01 - Player Stats V2.xlsx

The only thing you need to do each week is to copy and paste the Skewen Stats sheet (using the Values Only option) to the next available row in Column B on the STATS sheet. (If you want to maintain the formatting, you can do a straight copy - all the values will show errors when you copy, but if you then use the copy values option with the same selected range, you will have the formatting, but all the formulas will be changed to values).

In Column A on the STATS sheet, you must enter the Match Description against each player that exactly matches the description as shown on each competitor sheet. Look at the STATS sheet - you will see I have entered Swansea ME (Home) in A2:A11.

Next week - starting at row 13, copy the Skewen Stats into B13, convert to Values, enter the match - maybe Beddau (Home) in cells A13:A22. Now, you will find that all the sheets from P Smith Jnr to Totals will be updated immediately - without you doing anything. The formulas get all the information they need from the STATS sheet.

Please note - I have assumed that you will use 12 rows for each match on the STATS sheet, and that there are 14 matches in the season. That means that there should be no more that 168 rows. My formulas on the individual player sheets allow for 200 rows, so there should not be any problems.

I would expect the whole update process to take you less than one minute once you have finished the individual Match workbook.

I hope this is clearer, please let me know!

    Regards,

    David

That is absolutely brilliant! Works perfectly! One last question, how difficult is it to add new players into the book?

Pleased it works. Don't forget to click on the star and to mark the thread as solved.

It should be easy enough to add more players. Just insert a new sheet, and add a row to the Totals sheet.

    Regards,

    David
