    Hidden macro?

I used Time Machine to migrate from an old iMac to a new iMac. After the migration, I found that any number entered into a cell in Excel was multiplied by .1. For example if I entered 10, the cell contains 1.

I'm not a very experienced Excel user, but it looks like that might have been a macro that somehow caused the problem. I have been unable to locate any macros and have been unsuccessful in fixing this problem.

I am desperate and any help will be appreciated.

Can you attach an example, I'm not understanding something about your post.

You don't have to add Rep if I have helped you out (but it would be nice), but please mark the thread as SOLVED if your issue is resolved.

You can see the data in the cells in row 6 are 1, 2 and 3. The data entered were 10, 20 and 30.

There are no formulas in those cells to multiply the entered data by .1.error..pdf

Have you checked Cell Formatting? Perhaps there is some particular formatting set up?

    Re: Hidden macro?

This is not a format problem, nor is there a formula in those cells to multiply entered data by .1.

When I use files that generate this problem on a different computer, the problem is not present.

Thanks for trying to help out – it is much appreciated.

Odd, unfortunately I do not have a Mac at the office. Have you tried to look in Excel settings or your computer System settings? Something with number formatting or such is probably off. Does this happen within your old files only or in newly created ones also?

    Re: Hidden macro?

It happens with files that were created prior to the appearance of this problem and new files.

When I click on the files with the problematic data and go to the developer button to look at macros, there are no macros present. I'm not having a similar problem or problems with any other applications running on this computer – it's just Excel, so I think it is a problem at the program level for Excel.

I didn't see that changing numbers was an option with AutoCorrect, but I turned off all AutoCorrect options and the problem persists.

    Re: Hidden macro?

Okay – here is another wrinkle.

If I format the cells as numeric and type in 7.0, the data remains 7.0. Any time I add a decimal place to the data, the data displays exactly as typed.

If I enter a 7, the data displays as .7. So I have an inelegant workaround- I can always add a single zero first decimal place and get the number to display correctly, but there's obviously something wrong. I have spent time going through every menu option and pulldown I can find and have not been able to figure out why this is happening.
