Question How to automatically exclude a row from a nested group once populated

Hi All,

I have a worksheet that contains the same 50 rows pasted several times down the sheet and each bank of rows contains a new piece of data. The reason that each new type of data can't be stored in columns is because we use columns to track performance over time

For a brief idea:

NET INCOME Month 1 Month 2 Month 3.... etc.
Property A
Property B
Property C
...
Dummy Property
Dummy Property
Dummy Property

OCCUPANCY Month 1 Month 2 Month 3.... etc.
Property A
Property B
Property C
...
Dummy Property
Dummy Property
Dummy Property

We are keeping several rows free for the future when new properties may be added to the portfolio. But for the time being, they don't have names, and visually they're getting in the way. I've been using 'groups' to hide the unwanted dummy property rows, but when the day comes that we add a new property to the portfolio, I don't want to have to manually resize all the groups to the fewer number of rows. That is to say, I want to see data when the row is populated, but I want to hide (by means of a group) all the excess rows when they're blank.

Can you think of a way that, when we give one of the dummy property lines a new name and some data, it will remove it from the group and keep it visible with the rest of the existing properties?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, welcome to the forum

Have you considered using filters instead? You could filter out all the blank rows, and it is pretty quick/easy to undo and reapply
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

Thumbs up Re: How to automatically exclude a row from a nested group once populated

Brilliant! Thank you Ford!

I'm kicking myself...this is a classic case of "Why didn't I think of that?"

Simple, easy and does exactly what I need it to do. For anyone else this may help in the future, I've applied a simple text filter to exclude anything containing the string 'Dummy Property'. But there are a few other filters I could apply to achieve the same thing.
