    Parsing Single Column of Text Data

    A word doc outlining the goal is attached. Basically when you highlight web pages with data in columns and rows and copy the data to excel you get one row of text data. So an internet table of 8 columns and 7 rows gets converted into a single column of text that is 56 rows by 1 column. You can manually select each record and transpose it to a different location, but that is not practical with a lot of data.

    An attached WORD doc with 2 embedded EXCEL files is more detailed. I have tried various help items on the internet and have not managed to solve this. I used to be proficient in VBA and suspect a macro could be written to get this done but am not going to try that myself. No time.

    Re: Parsing Single Column of Text Data

    Thank you. I was able to mess with the formula to cover different lengths of data. Will study that INDEX function. Meanwhile,
    let me push my luck and ask a related question. Several of the "fields" in the original data contain 2 pieces of information which
    wind up in the same column of excel. For example the field Margin/Maintenance has 2 numbers like $12320/11200. After getting the
    row format, can I fill a formula in col M which copies only part of the data in col k?

    John;

    I figured out how to do what I requested...ie the splitting up of the numbers.

    thx
