    Sorting/Filtering massive dataset

    Hi All

I am desperate to solve this and im sure your powerful brains can sort this problem in seconds. Well here go's, I have a data set with multiple columns of data and dates, I need to sort the columns by dates so that each row has the same dates on it. Also need to sort each set of dates by various other data columns. So if i have a 30 dates in column A then they match up to the dates in column F but this may only have 10 dates. This is a massive data set of over 30k rows and really dont want to go through inserting rows every time i see a date change.

I have attached a small amount of the data set.

I am probably not explaining this very well but hopefully you can figure out what i am after.

Thank you so much for any help that you can offer.

Your explanation does not match up with your file. There are no dates in columns A nor F. Is your example the raw data or the mocked up solution. It does not make sense. Please try to explain what you want using your example. It would be helpful if you mocked up your solution on a separate worksheet. When you explain your situation, think of telling us what you want as if we were standing in line at a coffee shop.

    Right sorry,you are right it was not explained very well. Ok take 2, the file attached has two tabs number 1 is the raw data as i see it, tab 2 is how i want it to look as best i can. The order would be something like this;

    Sort first

    D
    G
    R
    AA
    AG

Cheers for your help once again

    Re: Sorting/Filtering massive dataset

I think it would be helpful to start if you had all your dates formatted as dates in the same format convention. Some appear as general and others as dates. Some are formatted in US convention mm/dd/yy and others are formatted as European convention of dd/mm/yy. That would be the first thing I would do. Then I would highlight the entire range and try a sort first on D, secondary on G, tertiary on R, etc. I have not tested as I was not willing to try and reformat all of your dates as I was unsure of which way they should be formatted.

Hi cheers for your help, it is meant to be in English format. Any chance you could have a play and I will have a go at this end and see what we come up with?

    Many thanks

Your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Do not crosspost your question on multiple forums without including links here to the other threads on other forums.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).
