Lightbulb automatic update (result workbook) without opening source workbook

i have linked three excel workbook. First is source workbook. second one is on which i have done calculation and third workbook shows result. Now my query is
1: i want automatic update reflects on third excel workbook( showing result) when i do any change in source wb without opening second workbook.

2: how to share final workbook(showing result) with others without sharing first and second workbook.

Hi,

1. If the workbooks are linked with formulae like
Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

then dependent cells will be updated whether the precedent workbooks are open or not.

2. If you want to share the result workbook which contains linking formulae and the users don't have access to the other files and neither do you want them to have access then you will need to convert all the linking formulae to values before sending it.

Sorry, but I don't understand what the last bit of the above after the "..." means. Please clarify.

Re: automatic update (result workbook) without opening source workbook

sorry, for not putting query in right way i am using this formula (=[store.xlsx]Sheet1'!B6) to link first workbook to second workbook
and ( =[data.xlsx]Sheet1!BV149) to connect second workbook to third workbook (which shows result). After changes happen in first workbook does not reflect on third workbook untill second workbook is open for once. Thankyou for giving your precious time to my problem

OK, I understand what you are doing here (I think)

you have workbook--linked to-->workbook2--linked to-->workbook3

You open WB1 and make a change, then open WB 3 and the change does not show?

That is because WB2 does not have that change yet. Until you open WB2, it still have the "old" data in it. Even if you open WB2 to reflect the change in WB1, but dont save WB2, the "old data" will still be in WB2

Think of it this way...
WB2 does not know what you did in WB1 until you open it so it can see what changed
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Hi,

I think Ford has given you the answer. i.e. you need to open workbook2 and save it.

You could make a code in wb1 that open wb2 and save/close it
