Problems with printing gradients within a cell

I am hoping someone knows exactly what is wrong with this, as i have literally run out of ideas as to what the problem could be.

Below is a photo of a print preview, i am attempting to print to a black and white only printer,

The print finishes successfully however the three cells still coloured in the preview are printed as plain black blocks,

without the writing showing.

i have attempted other printers with the same outcome, with the exception of colour printers,

which print fine.

I have also tried systematically selecting and deselecting options within 'Page Setup' and 'Printer Properties' which i think could be relevant.

If you have anything to suggest it would be massively appreciated,
