Question Create a link from one workbook to another workbook which will update changes

I have an excel workbook lets call it "A" which contains formulas and calculations in cells with rates for expenses and billings . I need to be able to update this one workbook "A" and have it update several other workbooks "B" "C" etc.. when I change the rates in workbook "A". I have tired to copy the formulas and paste with the "special paste function" but that doesn't work. How can I create a link in each of my workbooks "B" "C" etc to link to my workbook "A"

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, if you change the values in Workbook A, cells A2 and B2 this will change the values in Workbooks B and C accordingly...

If this isn't what you are looking for perhaps you can upload a sample to demonstrate what you are trying to achieve together with the expected outcome.

Yes, I think that will work. How do I set this up so I can try it?

If you open all 3 workbooks attached above hopefully that will help. Take a look at the formula's in columns C and D in workbooks B and C and then see if you can adapt to your needs. Alternatively if you can upload a sample of your workbook/s we can take a look for you...

    Something to think about:

Do you really have to have separate workbooks?

If you can do in one workbook what is accomplished by having separate workbooks the maintenance of your system becomes much easier to manage. Separate workbooks can be setup to work with each other, and there are a few ways of accomplishing that, but each workbook adds a complexity that may not be necessary or desirable.

Yes, Workbook A is the main source for a specific vendor and their rates, Workbook B, C, D, etc are different customers billing workbooks which have the same expense from this vendor but different billing rates. So right now I have to update the customers' multiple workbooks every time this specific vendor changes their rates.

    Hi Jane,

Do you have enough to work with or are you able to upload some sample workbooks, changing the data if senstive, so we can help you further?

The more I hear of this the more I think that multiple workbooks isn't a good idea. Excel can handle a massive amount of data within one workbook and if done with one workbook, you don't have to have several workbooks open just to make the links work.
