    Vlookup error #n/a

Hi, I hope this is simple and I'm just missing it, but I'm getting an error on an easy formula. I need to track a value by month, so I use =today() and customize the date to MMM (e.g. Jan) found in cell A1. in B1-B12 I have the months listed out Jan, Feb, Mar and so on. in C1-C12 I have the monthly value. So i Vlookup 'VOOKUP(A1, B1:C12,2,FALSE)'

The formula works when I simply type Oct in A1, but when I use TODAY() in A1 I get the #N/A error. I have set the custom format for A and B to MMM.

    Any ideas here? thank you!

I believe =TODAY() is stored as a numerical entry, which would explain why when you enter Oct (stored as text string), you obtain a match. Try this in A1:

What does that return (if anything)?
