Fuzzy Lookup for Excel & Excel 2016 (possible bug)

Has anyone experienced a bug with this add-in since installing Excel 2016? I find I have to set the threshold to less than .5 to see .8 matches. I also reran some older data, and the scores were different than the ones that were calculated in Excel 2013. Not sure what is going on. I just noticed it yesterday when I got some strange results.

I tried repairing the installation, but it did not change anything. Before I start uninstalling and reinstalling (and uninstall permanently probably), just wanted to ask if anyone else noticed.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the forum :0

Which add-in are you refering to?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Now I'm thinking it's a bug or at least a poor feature of the add-in regardless of the Excel version. If anyone is interested in replicating what I see, do the following:

1. Create two tables with the following headers and values:

Name In Table 1
Liam L. Carter
Dylan Parker

Name In Table 2
Parker, Dylan
L. L. Carter

2. Run the fuzzy lookup at 0.5 threshold. The following table is generated:

Name In Table 1 Name In Table 2 Similarity
Liam L. Carter
Dylan Parker Parker, Dylan 1.0000

3. Run the fuzzy lookup at 0.25 threshold. The following table is generated:

Name In Table 1 Name In Table 2 Similarity
Liam L. Carter L. L. Carter 0.8643
Dylan Parker Parker, Dylan 1.0000

The Liam-L.L. match should have made when running the add-in at the 0.5 threshold level.

Unfortunately on the Fuzzy Lookup Add-In for Excel page neither Excel 2016 nor Windows 10 are listed. I need to use this add-in but am not sure how much I can trust it given the original post here and the fact that 2016 and 10 aren't listed as supported.

So I am on Win10 and had the fuzzy lookup tool on my Office 2010. We upgraded everything to Office 2016 64 bit and it was lost. Just to let everyone know. I had to uninstall the fuzzy excel add on. I rebooted my computer, I re-downloaded the fuzzy add on, ran the installation, opened up my Excel 2016 and it was in the tool bar again, just processed 20,000 records and it seems to be working fine....

Update: Fuzzy Lookup appears to work fine on my Windows 10/Excel 2016 computer, but I could be missing something.

I can't even install it. There must be a setting on my laptop inhibiting the installation as it worked fine on a colleague's machine. Any ideas?
Alternatively, can I manually install it by copying elements from a successful installation?

If you are using Excel 2003, you're out of luck. It's Excel 2007+

See the spec at the top of this page:
