Linking Worksheets

I am trying to link 2 different worksheets saved in my hard drive. I link them correctly and it imports the data correctly. The next time I open the document where the data was imported it asks me if I would like t update values and when I click update it pulls the newest data from the other saved spreadsheet. My problem comes in when one of the spreadsheets is a CSV. for some reason it requires for me to open the CSV file before it can update values while when they are both xlsx it updates without having to open the file.

Any ideas on how to get around this?

Is it an option to use a Data connection to the csv file rather than a formula link and use the Refresh option.
