    I have a grey area to the left of a sheet (outside work area) would work area, needs to go

    Hi
    I have a grey area with a #1 and #2 button at the top to the left of my worksheet that I have no idea how it has appeared, please see picture.

    Can someone tell me what it is and how to remove it please.

    I suspect that you have clicked on Subtotal on the Data ribbon. Or you may have selected some rows and clicked on Group on the Data ribbon.
