Auto Fill Series with Number + Text

    Hi there,

On my work computer I had Open Office for years and just recently was upgraded to Microsoft Office (yay!). However I'm running into an issue. In Open Office I could type in "[email protected]" and drag the auto fill down and the numbers would be generated in a series, 1, 2, 3, etc always followed by the "[email protected]". Excel doesn't seem to want to do this. Is there really no easy way to do it? I've tried entering 2 rows, first "[email protected]" and then "[email protected]" and dragging down both to establish a pattern but that doesn't work either. The help doc I found from Microsoft only lists a "text1" format. Are we just out of luck if we want to use "1text"?

I imagine there's probably some slightly complicated formula that could accomplish this but I'm looking for this to be easy enough for very non-tech savvy people that I need to train. I can't expect them to remember or use a formula.

    Thank you for your help.

Re: Auto Fill Series with Number + Text

Thank you very much, both those formulas work. I suppose that answers my question that there is no non-formula way to accomplish this though. Seems so silly that Excel can recognize text and then a number but not a number and then text for autofilling a series. Not much we can do about that though!

The whole point of this is to generate a list of phony email addresses for a contact list because it is a required field. And every email address must be unique in our system. So initially our thought was each person could generate phony emails for their contact list by simply entering [email protected] where "last name" is their last name and dragging down. It really does not matter what format the email addresses are in (like it could be [email protected] but that doesn't work either), other than they have to be recognizable as email format with the @ and .com in the appropriate places. Does anyone have any ideas of a way we could do this that would not involve a formula? We're talking about hundreds of real estate agents doing this on their own, with wide variety in tech ability. The simpler the better. We'd rather not have to do it for all of them.
