How to get back columns on Excel

    Hi,

I recently downloaded an excel file and each row comes out under the first column, instead of being in separate columns as it the usual default. I attach an example. Instead of the text appearing in separate columns, a semi colon appears where it should be a new column.

If anyone has any tips on this it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Eliot,

Your excel file extension is .CSV its a comma separated values file, which allows data to be saved in a table structured format.CSV, so you are facing this problem.

    Regards Imran.

Re: How to get back columns on Excel

    Thank you Imran.

I have a lot of experience with CSV files and usually don't experience this issue when I open the file. Is there a workaround to solve this issue?

    Thanks

    Hi Eliot,

You can use text to columns go to DATA Tab--text to columns--delimited--next--other box check with semicolon--next--finish.

    Regards Imran.

Re: How to get back columns on Excel

    Thanks Imran.

I have done this and it separates the top columns (the header), but it doesn't separate the row below. When I try and highlight everything I get a message that I can only select one column at a time.

Please can you advise how I can sort this issue with the whole spreadsheet in one go?

Please note, what I attached previously is just an example, but I am actually working with a much larger spreadsheet.

    Thanks
