Question Inconsistent results when Pasting from Clipboard into Excel

I collect data to the Office Clipboard in one program using copy. The typical format for the information is text such as "1234.5678 in". Collecting the data has not changed over the years, but recent updates to Windows and Excel have resulted in frustrating results when pasting the data into Excel.

One issue is that sometimes it takes one click on an individual data item to paste it into the spreadsheet, but frequently it takes two or more clicks.

The second issue is when I try to Paste All from the Clipboard it frequently skips items. For instance, several times I had 24 items collected. I clicked Paste All and only 23 items were pasted. It didn't paste item 19 of 24. Usually, clicking Paste All again and again results in different results each time, but rarely all 24 items being pasted.

So far, if I only collect 12 items it works, but when I collect 24 items, it usually doesn't work.

I am running Windows 10 on a reasonable new computer with an AMD FX-8350 processor 16GB. The issues started when I was running Windows 8. I have a subscription to Office 365 and I'm using Excel 2013.

Has anyone experienced this kind of problem or know of a solution?

Re: Inconsistent results when Pasting from Clipboard into Excel

I've experienced the first problem. It seems to be a matter of getting Excel's "attention." Sometimes it takes one click just to get focus on the workbook, then another click to get focus on the cell, but sometimes you come up in the formula bar and you need to get another click to get the cell itself.

I've seen the second, but it was a user headspace issue. I was pasting into a range with hidden rows. The copy / paste worked perfectly. You might also want to check the "purity" of your data. It may contain non-displayable characters that might make the paste doubtful. For example a hidden carriage return might cause Excel to show just the first piece of data until the row height is reformatted.
