Help with count formula

Hello

this is probably easy but im trying to count letters which are column A but to give a running total on column B. On the spreadsheet attached you can see what the result I want to achive in column B.

Put this formula in B1:

=COUNTIF(A$1:A1,A1)

then copy down.
