Working on multiple spreadsheets and keyboard shortcuts stop working all of a sudden

Hi Everyone,

I work on multiple spreadsheets all day long and sometimes when I have a multiple sheets open my keyboard shortcuts will stop working all of a sudden. I cant use the arrow keys to navigate or highlight, I cant single click a cell and overwrite the text in there anymore. I cant double click the bottom right corner of the cell to copy all the way down. Its very frustrating!

I notice sometimes this happens after I will either copy something down by clicking and dragging or double click a cell to get into the text.

The problem only fixes after I close down one of my sheet that I have open. Problem is - I need that sheet!

Anyone have a similar problem?

I currently am on Windows 7 professional 64 bit and I have Excel 2013.

Unfortunately, the more workbooks you have open, the more likely it is that problems like the ones you describe occur. Are you also hooked into the internet and do you have other things running on your computer at the same time?
I have noticed (with Excel2016) that sometimes various keys appear disabled and menu items unavailable, but if I click on the "Save" icon the problem goes away.
To reduce the risk of problems, I would close down and re-open the workbooks at regular intervals during the day to clear the memory.
You could create a macro to do this and run it whenever convenient (coffee time, lunch time etc). The macro could save, close and re-open either the active workbook, or all open workbooks.
