    Lookup producing unwanted result

    Hi,

I'm using LOOKUP to generate a set of results from 2 sets of data, but it's producing a weird result, so I'm obviously getting it badly wrong.

    Data as follows:

    Column A - list of c. 80,000 postcodes (ie 80,000 rows)
Column B - list of a subset of c.5,000 postcodes
Column C - units relating to the 5,000 postcodes in column B
    Column D - result of look-up

What I'm trying to do is take each of the 80,000 postcodes in A, look to see if they are in B, and if so show the unit in C in column D - ie unit value in C opposite the original postcodes in Column A

So far I have been doing this: D=lookup(A1,B$1:B$5000,C$1:C$5000)

But it just returns incorrect and duplicated numbers....

If anyone could advise I'd be very grateful indeed.

    Best regards,

    Fast Eddie

    Re: Lookup producing unwanted result

Thanks a lot for trying to help - unfortunately, that just seems to return "0" in the cell where I'd like to have the value in C - and N/A in the other cells (which isn't a problem in itself).

It's not picking up the value from the shorter list of postcodes and showing it against the same postcode in the longer list.
