how do i "search" a column and return the value of its adjacent cell

I have a list of "old" numbers and I need to find this number in a list on another tab and return the value of the new number from the adjacent cell.
I have attached a sample file to help.
    Your assistance is appreciated

    Try this...

Entered in B4 and copied down:

    =VLOOKUP(A4,'data source'!A:B,2,0)

I'm sorry, but this does not return the new value adjacent to the data source. Thank you though.

Maybe this could work for you.

If you know the range of the data source, replace the full column references with the range of your data.

    Note:
I tried Tony Valko's formula and it works perfectly....check how you entered it.
