I am working on a project and I need to hyperlink many hundreds of pdfs in my excel for easy viewing from the excel. I am thinking of solutions for this and I have come across a few problems:
I could hyperlink to the pdf in a local folder and be able to open it automatically and easy, but now I am not sure how I am going to be able to make this a system that can be transferred to other systems seamlessly since the local links are tied to that machine.
What options are there for me for this situation? Can I make a dynamic link to the object that auto updates when the pdf location changes (like when you insert it as an object) or linking to the pdf like you can in HTML (/pdf_folder/example.pdf) instead of having the full link?
I could insert each pdf as an object and just link to the pdf in excel when the want to view it. But I bet that making 500+ objects of pdfs will take up a huge amount of memory and may cause instability of excel and or require a long time to open the file and may not be able to be opened in weaker systems with less ram.
Is this the case? Will I hit a memory boundary if I insert each pdf? Is it possible to manage this with say Microsoft Access then import the links from a Microsoft Access database? If so can you point me to resources to instruct me at doing this?
I could hyperlink to a cloud storage/FTP that have the pdfs but this will require the link opening in the browser thus causing wait time and eating up time in the workflow (it needs to be an easy and seamless system).
Is there another option I am not thinking about? I am capable of using VBA so I am not opposed to such solutions.
Thanks for the help!
