Exclamation Match columns, and extract data in different columns

    Hello eveybody!

I am starting a small statup, an ecommerce site specialised in selling car parts. The problem is that at this moment, and in the near future it will only be a one person business because I am attending university, and I have to pay back the student loan. So I have to manage everything, from product uploads to preparing the products for shipping.

I have a major problem. On the site exist a three step car configurator that includes, manufacturer, model and year of production. In product upload process I have to mention the products compatibility with the existing cars. But the problem is, that every after market car part manufacturer sends the product lists very-very different.

And my problem is, that if I dont find a solution to automate this, I have to do it manualy, what is very painless. So somehow I need Excel to match 2 columns with one column, and extract the matched data in 2 different columns.

I attached an example of what should it look like.

    Any solutions?

    Thank you in advance!

    Dear patko15:

First you need to populate the lists manufacturers and models
Mind that the adjacent column is to enable the right spelling (i.e. ALFA-ROMEO as ALFA ROMEO)

    Hi -

It's not perfect, but the attached spreadsheet should reduce the number of lookups you have to do by hand. This process uses SEARCH to find the common manufacturer's name in the text strings. Since it is an array function (to compare the array of manufacturer's to each string) you will need to press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to engage the Array functionality.

    Hope this helps.
