Losing visible focus

I seem to have an issue more and more now that I've upgraded to 2016 that is driving me batty. I occasionally get an error when copying data. The error is about not being able to clear the clipboard but that's not the problem (it's annoying, to be sure) but the problem is that when this error happens (sometimes when other errors occur too), I can no longer see what the active cell is. When I click on a cell, there's no box around the cell with the handle on the bottom right. The cell I click on is selected, and I can do everything I need to in that cell, but I cannot see that the cell is selected. This is especially problematic when selecting multiple cells since there's no indication whatsoever. I can continue to work, but it's hard to be confident that I'm selecting the right cell each time.

I can switch over to another open worksheet, and I can see the the selected cells there. I can even select another tab in the same workbook and see what cells are selected, but toggling back to the worksheet where the error occurred I cannot see the location of the selected cell(s)

Has anyone else experienced this?

In 2016 can you still get to VBA? I get this sometimes in 2007 (sorry i'm using old software!) and I Alt+F11 into VBA and in the 'immediate' window I type application.screenupdating = true and then that sorts it out. I find it's sometimes to do with the zoom level you are at.

I have been watching to see if your solution comes into play and it seems that it may be related to the updating. I have a number of routines that turn off and back on the screen updating and this seems to be related...thanks for the suggestion!
