creating a line chart from data that contain missing values

hi everyone,

I created a line chart from a data set that contains missing values.
I used formulas to draw data from other excel sheets. When I create the chart, the missing values are shown as zeros. I want the chart to display missing values as connected lines without any zeros or gaps.

For some reason I can't use "select data - hidden empty cells - connect data points with line"
there is absolutely no change, probably because the values in the cells aren't really numbers but formulas?

how can I resolve this issue?
