Mysterious Merge: columns all merged into single cells

New to the forum, but very grateful to all the other types of forums out there that have been lifesavers for me...

Saved worksheet as csv. like I usually do (so it jives better with the upload mail merge service I use), and when I reopened a couple days later, all the column formatting was gone, and all text and data is contained in the first cell of each row.

42 rows, columns out to BQ...nothing hefty.

Tons of searching found no repair for this...ran an abv (? ) and results found "no merged cells".

I'm on a 2010 mac with El Capitan (flame on), Excel 2011, 14.6.5.

I hope I can magically get them back to their columns...it's all smooshed and ugly and I can't import the data as needed.

    Thanks for any help!

    Welcome to the forum.

If the data is still separated by commas, or there's another delimiter present (spaces, maybe), try using Text to Columns.

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Thanks for the tip! That will work on perhaps the header row, but the majority of the cells contain multiple items and text/phrasing that has spaces; this would separate into columns inaccurately.

Regardless, that approach will save at least a little work!

    Cheers

Thanks for the advice again. I used text to column to rescue some of the formatiing. There was still a bunch of manual frankensteining and double checking that data had not changed rows as well, but it saved some work.

Strange how it happened...maybe I should upgrade...
