    Perecentages

    Hello

I need some help please :

I am trying to allocate a cost by different percentages to share against various entities so that I can share the cost.

    The cost is £255,416.58.

The first entity has to pay 25.42% of this cost. When I put this into a calculator I get £64,926.89

When I enter this into excel it appears as £64,918.24

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong (should I not be multiplying the cost by the percentage?) and how I should use excel to work this out?

    Thank you

    Jane

RU sure you're entering it into Excel correctly? I get the same answer as your calculator.

£64,926.89 is what I get when I put the figures into Excel.

Probably a variation between what is actually in the cell and what is displayed:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    gives £64,914.12

    Formula: copy to clipboard

    gives £64,916.68

But anything above 25.415 will display as 25.42 at two (2) decimal places

    Re: Perecentages

I suspect the actual percentage value being used is close to 25.4166115606121%

    Hello Glenn

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I am new to this forum and don't know how to add my spreadsheet to show you. I am a novice in excel. There is another formula feeding into this one that I used to get the percentage and that could be my problem???

See TMSs post. It'll be a rounding issue. To sttach a file. Click Ho Advanced, then Manage Attachments and then it's obvious....

    Thanks for the rep.

Yes. Chances are that produces something other than 25.42% but you are only seeing 25.42% because the display settings are set to two decimal places. If you had zero decimal places, you'd just see 24% in the cell.

To attach a sample workbook: Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
