Date format in cell differs from date format in formula bar

I am trying to upload a file into a program. The date format must be mm/dd/yy it also cannot be a text field, it must be date. The cell shows correctly but in the formula bar I am seeing mm/dd/yyyy. I have also updated my region and date settings to show short date of mm/dd/yy. I have also attached the error message I receive. Can anyone help?

Hi azilila,

Can you go through the steps you take to upload your file?

Also, Is this the first time you've tried to upload this file?

What happens if you try uploading without any changes?

If you can post the actual workbook it would also help.
Remember you are unique, like everyone else

Can you go through the steps you take to upload your file? - there is not much involved. I simply insert the file into the data loader and select insert.

Also, Is this the first time you've tried to upload this file? - no, I have been uploading these files/data for a few months. It just stopped working in the last few days.

What happens if you try uploading without any changes? - changes to what? I did attach the error message I am receiving. But let me know what else you may need.

If you can post the actual workbook it would also help. - attached is the file I am trying to load as well as the file with the sample error messages.

Thanks for the help!

Formatting is ONLY a cosmetic change to a cell, it does not change the underlying cell contents. No matter what the date shows in the cell (18.2016.Aug) in the formula bar it will always show the date based on your system default settings

D
E
F
2
18-Aug 18.2016.Aug Aug /// 2016 xxxx Thu

All 3 of those cells contains the exact same date (which appears in teh formula bar as 8/18/2016) , just custom formatted differently.
Im not sure - other than using TEXT - how you would change that. I tried using =TEXT(cell-ref,"mm/dd/yy") and then copy/paste values, and it seems to work...still a text date, but shows how you want
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Yes, I did try this. The issue is that the cell cannot be text or a formula for the upload. It must strictly be a date format.
