    reading data from a table

    Hello,

My workbook has several sheets, of which the first is a 2-dimensional array of numbers, with headers for the rows & columns. It is defined as a 'Named Range'. No problem.

It is accessed from other sheets using Vlookup(), along with Match() and Index() as needed, all reading data from the Named Range. Some of these formulae are quite complex. No problem.

I have been reading about Excel Tables. My 2-D array would look better as a table, but does it make any difference to the way I read from it. Will I still need the Vlookup() etc, or are there simpler functions for Tables?

I have Googled a bit but cant't find anything helpful.

    Thanks as always

    K

No there are no different sets of functions for TABLES

When create say a VLOOKUP you'll use the Table name, say 'Table1' rather than a range name or the cell address range

There are no special functions just for use on tables.

The main difference with using a defined named table is that the data range is automatically dynamic but you have to use the structured referencing syntax (which I absolutely loathe!).

Many thanks. I might change it to a table anyway because it looks neater.
