This is so old.
When you open a new workbook "File New Workbook" what are the numbers on the left side called and how do you change the size?

Do you mean the Row identifiers? If so, they are fixed in size, but if you use the zoom control to make the sheet bigger or smaller, then they will adjust appropriately.

The numbers on the left hand side are the Row Headers, or Row Numbers. The letters across the top are the Column Headers.

You can't change the size of them, as far as I am aware.
