Data validation without having the values list in a seperate sheet or anywhere

Hi there,

I want to user to choose just 2 or three values from the cell using combo box or the list box in cell, but I don't want to maintain the lists in separate sheet in the same Excel or anywhere in the same sheet.

Is it possible? if yes, please advise the procedure.

You can use data validation with a list and as a list give lust a comma (or your system separator) separated values.

Set up a cell with a drop-down list using Data Validation as follows:
You want a drop-down list in A1 with three choices (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3). While in cell A1, select DATA tab, Data Validation. Under Settings select the "list" option under Validation criteria "Allow". Now in the "Source" enter in the choices separated by a comma (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3) then hit OK.
This will give you only those options to select from in a drop-down. You can also set up an Input Message (help the user know what the values are) and Error Alert (an alert if the user enters an invalid value).
