Lock a single sheet in a workbook

    Hi all,

A question has been pose in my workplace that I'm not sure the answer of.

I know you can password protect a workbook so that only those with the password have access to it.
I know you can protect via password the contents of a workbook.

Is it at all possible to allow someone access to a workbook, but hide/protect a single page (rather than using the hide function) to make it only accessible by those with a password? But allow all other pages to be accessed and updateable for those without the password?
Just to add to matter the workbook already requires a password to access it.

Yes. Each worksheet can be individually password protected. Go to Review, then Protect Sheet.

    Formula: copy to clipboard

I have no idea what you mean by that. Do you want to hide the protected sheet, or not?

    Hi Vibro,

    Excellent question.

    a. You can make an individual sheet visible, hidden, or 'very hidden'. Very Hidden requires access to VBA to unhide the Sheet.

    b. You can also password protect individual Sheets with a different password for each Sheet.

    c. You can also hide rows and columns in a Sheet (including hiding all rows and columns).

You can use combinations of the above to hide items from users completely, allow users to view only, or to allow users to view and edit almost anything.

Please note that Excel password protection is not robust, and a sophisticated user can access anything in an Excel file.

    I hope this helps.
