Ignore formulas in a table sort.

I have data in a sheet 1 that reference sheet 2 ie ='Main Summary '!F8

Sheet 2 is the "main Summary" sheet where the primary data is entered.

The data in sheet 1 is in a table when i use the sort ( smallest to largest )option it sorts the formulas in blank cell and put them at the top so i get all the blank lines before i get a readable cell.

Does anyone kjnow how to get the sort to ignore the cells that contain formulas or degrade their inportance in the sort so they appear at the bottom of the list.

    thanks,
    All

Re: Ignore formulas in a table sort.

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? Please don't attach a picture of one.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Hi Glen,

    Thanks for the reply.

regret I can't use actula data, in fact their woudl be very few circumstances where third party data could under the data protection act.

I thought some one woudl smily direct me to a button in the tools ribon alas I'm begining to realise this is more complex than originaly thought.

Any tip welcome but preparing to abandon.

Re: Ignore formulas in a table sort.

I did not ask you to post you actual sheet. I asked you to remove all confidential information from it. All that is needed is 10 or 20 rows. names can be replaced with A, B, C, etc. All unneccessary columns can be deleted. There is no need to worry about the DPA if you follow the guidance above. Hundreds of people post "dumbed down" versions of confidential data here every week.
