Subtracting Time and being alerted when the result is longer than a preset time

I have attached a spreadsheet. I have been monitoring the GSM cell phone signal in 5 minute intervals.

I would like to subtract the times between two notifications and then be alerted if its longer than 5minutes.

I don't know how to subtract time and not sure if there is a way to be notified if the time is longer than 5 minutes.

In C5, type =ROUND((A3-A4)*1440,2) and copy down. This will give you the minute intervals. You can use conditional formatting to highlight values greater than 5.0

Re: Subtracting Time and being alerted when the result is longer than a preset time

Thank you very much wow it works but I am not sure I follow.

How does the formula distinguish between the date and time which is in Column A?

I understand the ,2 is the rounding it to 2 decimal places.

why do you multiply the result of the subtraction by 1440

    Thanks for the help

Here is a clear tutorial on Dates and Time. It should make clear how they work in Excel.
