    Significance level calculation

    Hello everyone,

Want to apologise for my bad english in advance.
I have a question about significance level calculation.
I know how to calculate it when you have a chart like for e.g. (1 column of various blood pressures of males and the second column of various blood pressures of females).
But what I have is a chart that consists of only 2 numbers. I'm writing a paper on dog arrhythmias and I'm comparing how many males and females have them in the population I'm looking into. So I have these numbers 9 females and 33 males. And I want to know is the hypothesis that male dogs have that disease more often is statistically positive, I mean how do I calculate the significance level for this data so that I could know is it (p<0,05) or not.

Hope you get what I want to ask

It sounds like a chi-squared test is what you're after. But... two numbers aren't enough. I assume that 9 females and 33 males presented with arrythmia. How many males and females were examined that did NOT present with arrhythmia??

    Re: Significance level calculation

    Thanks for the reply
Yeah, it was that Chi-Test thingi..
I got help from somewhere else. They said to me that to my table I had to add the overall number witch was 42. Then you calculate a certain number that is (E) (Don't know what it stands for). You calculate it by dividing the overall number, so I got 21. Then you put all those numbers in a certain table and calculate the (p) form it with an excel function (command) CHITEST.
