How about attaching the spreadsheet you started? If you want the whole thing doing for you, you probably need to look at posting in the Commercial Services section where you can offer recompense to anyone who is prepared to do it for you.

Your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Do not crosspost your question on multiple forums without including links here to the other threads on other forums.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).

    Re: Advanced excel contracts manager

    Sure, Ill upload it.

However its a little bleak! Following the instructions on the page i got as far as making the fields that i would like my Contract numbers to be comprised of.. i used the dynamic named range method but the decided to use a table so i can arrange the prefixes in ascending order.. that way it will look neater in my combo box. but after i got past this section of the explanation the instructions seemed to become a little vague.. or at least i thought they did because i have to admit, i don't know exactly what I'm doing and my excel skills are only average!

Maybe the payed method is going to be best suited! i can see that its a quick task following the instructions but its actually how to do it, if you get me!

    Thanks :D

    Re: Advanced excel contracts manager

I'm more or less taking a wild guess here as to your real requirements. I have taken the prefix and appended to that the count of that prefix to form an alphanumeric code. Enter this in B2 and fill down. This will give you a result like JUNEA1 for the first occurrence and JUNEA2 for the second and progressing in order.

    Re: Advanced excel contracts manager

Thanks for your response, You certainly have the gist of what I'm trying to achieve! the zeros in column B was an instruction on the above link, i think the sheet is supposed to act as a register and 0 is the beginning figure.. if you see what i mean, there is some code on the link for combo boxes but i just don't know where to paste it,

the idea would be that when you enter the spreadsheet you can click 'new id' button that brings up a dialog box with a drop down list of the 'PreFixes' then a 'create id' button once the required prefix has been chosen.

so i could select JUNEA and when i click 'create id' it creates a record of JUNEA/001

JUNEA is an abréviation of Juneair, a company we do work for. i can then use the created id on all correspondence that relates to a particular job. when that jobs done and we start another job with them i can create another id JUNEA/002 but excel will increment that for me. its so i never loose track of my job numbers and means i don't have to keep going back to check the last one i used

sorry for the long explanation, I'm trying my hardest to learn but can't learn quick enough!

The technique given in the URL you provided is using VBA. I'm not at all proficient in VBA. Perhaps someone who is can help you with this aspect.

Here is one step further for you. The prefixes are on the Prefixes worksheet. Data Validation is on Sheet1.
