Excell 2010 comments not showing and drop down lists not showing correctly in Excell 2013

I have created a spreadsheet which includes fairly large number of pop-up comments to help user and several drop down lists. I use Excell 2010. When the spreadsheet is open with Excell 2013 and later, drop down lists don't work as they should- they need to be clicked on twice or more to show the lists. Many comments contain embedded pictures and they don't show when mouse pointer is hovering over the cells containing them.
Drop down list issue was temporarily resolved by using code for automatic change of column width but once the sheet is protected this doesn't work.

Can anyone please assist?

For some reason all comments within the spreadsheet have disappeared when i downloaded and opened it.
