Regarding shared spreadsheets, is the following an issue:

Was trying to help out a fairly computer-illiterate co-worker who needed a complex formula in excel.

I noticed he was using a shared spreadsheet. When I tried type any formula, Excel left it as a formula, as if it was in formula view.

When I go over to help later I will try turning formula view off ("Ctrl" + "`"). But is there any other possible cause for this?
