Slicer Alternative

I have a table, and I have defined named ranges. My data sources is one sheet1 which has headers; I would ultimately like to use data validation on sheet2 - so I would have each header listed and have a drop down with distinct values (from the data source in sheet1). The trouble I am having is for the filters to actually work and filter the data. In a sense, I am trying to do what the little filter arrows would do on sheet 2.

I have tried advanced filtering, and even using INDIRECT as part of the source in the data validation - but I might not be using it correctly

I do realize there are slicers that do this method, but I keep getting this slicer cache error when opening up the document and can't figure out why.
