    conditional formatting

I have 2 columns. I want to conditionally format so when I enter in one column
the second column automatically turns gray. This is true for both columns.

    Need help.

Select both columns from (for example A2:B50)
and apply the following formula in CF
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Jose

Thanks much for really prompt reply.

If I put 1 in one column both get gray.

I think I did not explain clearly.

When I put a number greater than zero in either column, other should turn gray.
The column where number is put in should remain white.

So I know payment has been received and nothing is pending

    Jose

You did great job but still 2 problems. We are almost there.

    a. when you put number in any column a or b both get grayed out.
Is it possible to make only one which is empty gray out.

    b. the number which makes other column gray should be larger than 0
At present even zero make both colmn gray.

    Re: conditional formatting

    Vikkam,

    Try This

    For a single preceding cell
    1. Highlight the cell that you wish to get the color formatting based on responding cell (for this example B2)
    2. Click on the Conditional Formatting and select "Use a formula to determine which cells to format"
    3. Type =$A2>0 in to Format values where this formula is true

For preceding Cells 1 or 2
    1. Highlight the cell that you wish to get the color formatting based on responding cell (for this example C3)
    2. Click on the Conditional Formatting and select "Use a formula to determine which cells to format"
    3. Type =OR($A$3>0,$B3>0) in to Format values where this formula is true

    Re: conditional formatting

1 Highlight the range you want formatted ie in column A
2 Click new rule under conditional formatting and click on formula
    3. enter formula in form of =B1=0 (change according to your setup)
    4. choose format style
    5 repeat for other column
