Protecting Cell Ranges

I'm trying to protect *parts* of a spreadsheet that contain formulas I use that work with data provided by other users. I've gotten the columns that my formulas are in protected, but I just discovered that if somebody selects an entire row they can apparently still delete the contents of my protected cells.

Is there any way to "lock" regions that will prevent this?

Tried that, and it doesn't seem to be protecting everything it should.
